Golfing the Marriott Desert Springs
On our last trip to the California desert I had the opportunity to golf at the Marriott Desert Springs in Palm Desert long been the crown jewel in the Marriott chain. One of the most fun and scenic resort golf courses in the desert there are two 18 – hole resort style courses for vacationers and guests of the hotel.
The two courses are known as the “Palm” and the “Valley” courses. They were designed by acclaimed golf architect Ted Robinson’s and they are beautifully landscaped. There is, however, more than just water and landscape to these two courses.
The two courses were created to provide golfers of all ages and abilities an enjoyable round. The course is littered with bunkers, water hazards and strategically placed trees and the greens are well maintained.
On the two days that I played, the staff provided our four some with newer high tech drive golf carts with state-of-the-art navigational and computing systems. The cars were equipped with on- board GPS computer systems which provide graphic layouts of each hole and computes exact yardage to the pin.
The pro shop is top rate with Taylor made clubs for rent, so if you are flying in to the desert you don’t have to drag around your own clubs. There is also a Taylor Made Performance Lab directly across from the pro shop if you need to correct that “hitch” in your swing or are simply looking for more distance.
My partner ordered lunch as he teed off from the 18th hole and was waiting for him at Sand Trap & Wedge restaurant. I preferred, however, to wait to eat at one of the hotels Oasis Bar and Grill later that afternoon.
While the boys spend the day on the golf course, the girls can have a spa day at the Spa Desert Springs which is one of the top spas in the desert.
After our day of golf and the ladies day of beauty, I showered and returned with my wife for a dinner at the Japanese styled restaurant the Mikado.
So on your next vacation to Palm Springs and the desert resort cities of Rancho Mirage, Palm Desert, Indian Wells and La Quinta you might consider spending the day golfing at the Marriott Desert Springs.
